Beginning to End

After the first date he texted:                                                              This is the beginning of something special.  : )

Now the text read:                                                                                I’m sorry.  I don’t want to see you again. (no smiley face inserted)

Lying in bed, staring at the ceiling, she wondered:                   What’s up with that?  It’s only been a month, and already I’m not special anymore?

She preferred the messages in between:                                       You’re beautiful. Fascinating and fun.  Intelligent, kind, and calm.  Like a still pool.  (He knew how much she liked adjectives.)  It would be nice if you were here right now.  I’m feeling a little uncomfortable.  Maybe I just need some more of your love.
