Expanding Horizons

¡Pura Vida! Costa Rica Lifestyle

I have a strong desire to travel.  To see places.  To explore. To try new things.  To live a life with more adventure.

How do I make it happen?

I feel stuck sometimes.  I want to bust out!  Explode into life!  I’m definitely making a splash in my own little corner, but it’s not enough.  I want to step into the ocean.  Climb the mountains.  Taste new foods.  Meet new people.  Expand my horizons.

It seems my usual default is to believe it’s not possible. Think, “How could it be possible?” There’s always that money factor chiming in.  Why does the doubter, the pessimist, always show up at the beginning of every dream?

My friend went to Costa Rica this past week.  Another  friend moved to San Francisco recently, and invited me to visit.  And.  I’ve been thinking I would like to touch the mountains again sometime real soon.   Plus spring is in the air.  All things contributing to my desire to spread my wings and fly!

I was just looking at an old copy of Coastal Living magazine. “Where to Travel in 2014.”  Jaco, Costa Rica was on the list. The short article focused on the author, Susan Hall Mahon’s first experience surfing.  It was so exhilarating to live through her experience while reading the words on the page.  Exhilarating, as well as painful, as I went into my want-but-can’t-have mindset.

Wasn’t it just yesterday I posted about the law of attraction and setting clear intentions?  Eyeyiyi!  Back to Buddhism….We create our own suffering!  So true.  So true.  Want want want.  A vicious cycle.  I was happy with what I had earlier today as I hiked with a friend at Rockbridge State Park.  An amazingly beautiful place right here in Mid-Missouri.  Hills, boardwalks, rocks, caves, and creeks.  Add the sunshine and number of people out on an early spring day, and it made for a lovely excursion, a mere  15 minutes from my home.

I may be a product of our current times.  Wanting instant gratification.  Craving excitement!  A bigger life.  It all depends on the day.  Just as there is impermanence in life, there is impermanence in wants,  thoughts, and emotions.  So, as the sands shift, they also settle.  I am happy in this life, although not with all of the current circumstances that surround me.  And.  I can dream of bigger things.  My friend’s sister is a travel writer.  Now there’s a thought.

Walt Disney said, “If you can dream it, you can do it.”  So here I go….adding another dream to the list!
